The Greene County Fair has fallen victim to the COVID-19 pandemic. The fair board and Greene County Extension announced Monday that virtually all elements of the fair will be postponed. The exception is the youth exhibits.
The fair board press release follows:
The Greene County Fair board and Greene County Extension have announced several changes to the upcoming 2020 Greene County Fair. After much discussion, due to the many unknowns concerning public safety and gatherings, a majority of our annual events will be postponed. This includes all grandstand, grounds entertainment, commercial exhibits, open class exhibits, and many other events with public gatherings.
The fair is usually a time for celebrating the accomplishments of our area youth and adult exhibitors as well as a time for fairgoers to get together in a family atmosphere to enjoy the sights, sounds and activities of a summer county fair. The board discussed many factors such as the wellbeing and health of our youth and adult volunteers, entertainment contracts, exhibitors, vendors, sponsorships and advertising. It was determined this was the best decision due to the uncertainty of what the public health situation may look like by the beginning of July.
As we do look at the 2020 fair, the Greene County Fair board, Greene County Extension 4-H and Youth, and Greene County FFA are working to fulfill the mission of the county fair by providing opportunities for youth to showcase their accomplishments. Details regarding the 4-H/FFA exhibits will be finalized with plans to email details to those families soon.
As we navigate through these unprecedented times, we want to thank the community, our sponsors, and partners for continuing to support the Greene County Fair.
